Press conference of NHK drama "Kami no Tsuki"

The press conference of NHK's new drama "Kami no Tsuki" was held on 6 August which was attended by its lead Harada Tomoyo and the original novel's author Naoki Award winner Kakuta Mitsuyo. The drama is scheduled to be shown from 7 January 2014 at 10pm on Tuesdays and will consist of 5 episodes.

Harada plays the role of Umesawa Rika, a housewife who derives joy in the little things in life. Her husband Masafumi (Mitsuishi Ken) thinks highly of himself just because he is the breadwinner and keeps hurting Rika unknowingly with his harsh words and thoughtless actions. When Rika starts working part-time at a bank at the public relations department which requires her to visit the customers' houses, she meets one of the bank's most important customer i.e. elderly man Hirabayashi Kozo (Mickey Curtis) who lives on his own and earns his trust through helping him in various things e.g. doing the household chores. Soon after, she meets Kozo's grandson Kota (Mitsushima Shinnosuke) who is debt-ridden and needs to borrow money from his grandfather. However, this fateful meeting later leads Rika to embezzle JPY 100m from the bank and run away from Japan. 2 years later, Rika's friends back in senior high school Okazaki Kinuko and Nakajo Aki retrace Rika's footsteps in the case which indirectly makes them deal with their own problems in life. Okazaki (Mizuno Maki) is a very thrifty person to the point of obsession while Nakajo (Nishida Naomi) is a divorcee who lost her marriage and child's custody due to her excessive shopping habit.

Filming began from late June in Tokyo and Thailand and is due to wrap up at the end of August.
